Addleston Hebrew Academy

Addlestone Hebrew Academy (AHA), founded in 1956, is a Community Jewish Day School. AHA’s innovative balance of Judaic and secular studies consistently enables it to graduate outstanding students. The goal of AHA is to provide educational programs to foster Jewish values, ensure Jewish continuity, and instill confidence and pride in all who participate in its programs, regardless of synagogue affiliation.

The preschool is accredited by NAEYC ( National Association for the Education of Young Children). The 18-month through four-year-old programs meet from 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. Kindergarten is a full day program, where both Hebrew and English reading readiness are taught. Beginning in the elementary school grades, students are guided to experience Hebrew as a living conversational language and to become familiar with the meaning and structure of the Torah and the prayer book in its original Hebrew.

The secular subjects range widely, including readiness skills, language arts, mathematics, science, computer science, physical education, social studies and Spanish. These classes provide students with a solid foundation not only in the subject matter, but also in higher order thinking skills, hands-on experience, and scientific experimentation. Various sporting teams, such as basketball and tennis, compete in local leagues. Middle school classes participate in unique programs, including School-In-The-Woods, a 3-4 day retreat to study ecosystems, and an 8th grade trip to Washington, D.C.

Addlestone Hebrew Academy is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and is a member of the South Carolina Independent School Association and Palmetto of Independent Schools. Yearly tution ranges from $1650 to $7950, depending on the grade, Scholarships are available. Entrance testing is required for all prospective grade students.
