Pinewood Preparatory School is a co-educational, college preparatory day school with an enrollment of over 700 students in pre-school through grade twelve from Summerville and the Charleston area. Located four miles west of downtown Summerville, the school offers a challenging academic program that has received national recognition in several academic areas. The goal of the school is to provide students with a strong academic foundation in preparation for college and life while promoting integrity and personal responsibility. Small classes provide the atmosphere that fosters academic risk-taking and achievement.

For younger children, Pinewood offers a full day developmental K4 and K5 program.In Lower School children learn the skills and habits of mind that create a strong foundation for more advanced learning. Middle School provides academic challenges, extra-curricular involvement and a wilderness program that fosters scholastic and personal growth in the transitional years of adolescence. The High School program is for highly motivated, average to above average students who have the ability to succeed in an accelerated program of study. High school students engage in intensive out of school study projects for a week during the spring semester in classes which tap the staff’s special expertise.

Extra-curricular activities include student literary productions, art and music studies, wilderness adventures and numerous interest clubs. The athletic program includes football, basketball, soccer, baseball, volleyball, tennis, golf, sailing, and scuba diving. Founded in 1952, Pinewood is directed by a Board of Trustees and is accredited by the South Carolina Independent Schools Association. Tuition ranges from $5500 to $7500.

Pinewood’s admissions policy is non-discriminatory, and admissions testing is conducted in late winter and spring.
